Figment Technologies

My name is Charlie Thornton. Below you'll find brief descriptions and links to some of the software I have written. I hope you will find something useful.

eNotepad.org

A free web notebook. You can write, edit, and delete messages from any computer with an internet connection. You can also upload files (like pictures or Word documents).

The web page is here: http://www.enotepad.org

Random Number Generator (javascript)

You can use this script to generate random numbers in a normal distribution. You can edit the average and standard deviation.

Curve Calculator (javascript)

Are you a teacher? Do you want an easy way to see how adding a few points to everyone's assignment will efffect the whole class? You can use my curve calculator to easily try out some curves.

The web page is here: http://www.figmenttech.com/curve_grades.html

JAR Creator (applet)

This program makes life easy Java programmers that would rather not use the jar command to build their JARs. It has a simple graphical user interface and lets you set a main class.

JAR Creator is an applet and when you open the web page a security mechanism within your web browser will ask you if you trust me. If you answer "yes", the program will work. If you answer "no", the program will be useless. I recommend answering "yes".

Day Job

I work for a small company in Manhattan, KS called Thunderhead Engineering. There I help create software that building designers use to make the indoor world a safer place. At the moment, we are working on an evacuation simulator that engineers will use to find out how long it takes for people to clear out during a fire. It will be used to model large buildings such as stadiums and skyscrapers.

Prior to the evacuation work, we built a user interface for a piece of software called the Fire Dynamics Simulator (FDS). FDS is a very powerful, very versitile fire modeling program. PyroSim is is doing well all over the world and will lead into the evacuation project rather well.

We first modeled earth. My career at Thunderhead began with a project called PetraSim. It is a user interface for a couple different simulators that model fluid and heat flow through ... stuff. This project has a small but noble following and we just can't help but keep it growing bit by bit.
